New U.S. Passport Fees In Effect
Starting today the cost of acquiring and renewing a U.S. passport got a lot more expensive. The new cost of getting a new passport has increased from $100 to $135 dollars for adult passports. Passport renewals have increased from $85 to $105 dollars. The cost of passports for those 16 years or younger has went from $85 to $105.
Those who are planning on crossing the U.S. border by a method other than air travel have the option of using a passport card. However, prices for these have also increased. Also, those of us who had started to run out of visa pages used to be able to get more for free, now that service costs $82.
The lone piece of good news is that the cost of expedited shipping hasn’t gone up, it will remain $60.
Currently the processing time for a passport is about 4 to 6 weeks. Those who want to fork out the additional $60 can cut processing time down to 2 to 3 weeks, including overnight delivery. Unless you want to pay the additional fee it would be wise to start the process at least 6-8 weeks before you will need your passport.
