Royal Caribbean Vacation Planner Charged with Burglary and Racketeering
Last week CNN reported that a Royal Caribbean employee had been arrested and charged with two dozen counts of burglary and one count of racketeering. According to the accusations Bethsaida Sandoval, 38, worked as a Royal Caribbean vacation planner by day and criminal mastermind by night. Palm Beach police say that Sandoval used her access to reservation information to find out when potential victims would be away on vacation. That knowledge allowed her and her husband John Lopez to burglarize the homes of 24 vacationers in Boca Raton, Coral Springs, Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. John Lopez faces the same charges.
“It was a very sophisticated crime,” sheriff’s Detective Anthony Johnson said. “It’s not your run-of-the-mill crime. There was a lot of thought that went into this.”
Sorry detective Johnson I’m not sure if I agree with that statement. At first the plan seems perfect but then normal brain function kicks in. What kind of criminal mastermind comes up with a plan that so obviously leads back to themselves? A five year old who has watched more than three episodes of huckleberry hound could put enough puzzle pieces to figure out that a Royal Caribbean employee at least played a part in the burglaries.
Maybe I should say former employee as she was fired when she was arrested. Royal Caribbean also issued a statement about the incident.
“Royal Caribbean does not tolerate any form of criminal activity in its workforce or operations,” it said in a statement. “This is a situation involving a former employee who appears to have taken advantage of their position for personal gain. Royal Caribbean cooperated fully with authorities during this investigation and will continue providing any assistance necessary to prosecute this individual to the fullest extent of the law.”
Sandoval currently is being held in a Palm Beach County jail on $70,000 bond. It is also being reported that the authorities are looking for at least two more suspects.
