Cruise Line Cancellations to Mexican Ports of Call

  • Sharebar

Yesterday evening the Center for Disease Control and Prevention decided to issue a travel warning advising people to forego any nonessential travel to Mexico.  The U.S. Department of State also issued a similar alert due to the Swine flu outbreak.  Today the cruise lines have started to address the issue.  Holland America, Princess and Carnival cruise lines have all confirmed that they will be changing their itinerary to avoid Mexican ports of call.

Today two of Princess Cruises ships the Sapphire and Coral Princess skipped scheduled stops along the Mexican Riviera, and were replaced by San Diego and Catalina.  Passengers aboard Holland America’s Ryndam were scheduled to be in Mazatlan today but instead skipped that port of call.  Also, Holland American announced that five of their ships will be changing their itineraries to avoid Mexico.  The Ryndam, Statendam, Westerdam, Veendam and Zuiderdam will all be sailing a yet to be released itinerary.

Meanwhile three Carnival ships were supposed to dock in Mexican ports today.  The Carnival Holiday and Inspiration were supposed to spend the day in Cozumel, while the Carnival Elation was set to dock in Ensenada.  None of those ships made their stops today.  It has also been announced that the Carnival Paradise will be skipping Ensenada tomorrow.

Stay tuned for more information to see what the revised itineraries will look like, and to see what the other cruise lines will be doing to keep their beloved customers healthy and happy.

Hi, I am finding it very interesting reading your blog. Appreciate that you are giving good information for a good cruising. I am wondering if you would know how can we get a good seating for the dinner time. Last year we did not get a good seating and it was on a side. I love to watch the dinner time entertainment. If you would kindly let me know would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks for reading my blog. Sometimes I just write not really paying attention to who or how many are reading so its always nice to hear from someone who does read it.

As far as getting good seating for dinner. These days I usually do anytime seating whenever possible but before there was anytime seating this is what I would do. As soon as I board the ship (or right after my customary well aboard lunch) I would head to my dining room to see where I was seated. If I was unhappy I would ask when the Maitre’D would be available (on some ships he’ll already be there), he’ll usually be more than happy to switch your seats for you. That is when you slip him a couple of dollars. Its important to get there early as he will be more accommodating if you aren’t the 50th person to ask him for the switch.
