Carnival Cruises Cancellation Options and Compensation

Passengers who don’t want to sail on a modified itinerary are eligible to receive a refund in the form of a future cruise credit which will be equal to the amount paid for the modified cruise. This credit can be applied to a different cruise departing through the end of 2010. Passengers on the four and five-day cruises which leave from Galveston and New Orleans which are being changed over to seven-day cruises, have the option to receive their refund in the form of a either a future cruise credit or money back. Those guests who want to exercise this option can call 1-888-CARNIVAL to make their requests known.  There may be compensation for missed altered itineraries depending on the itinerary.  Guests with questions should call 1-888-CARNIVAL.

Preliminary List of Mexico Cruise Itinerary Changes

The information on what the cruise lines plan to do is slowly trickling out to the public.  Today Carnival and Royal Caribbean/Celebrity have issued an update on their plans for cruises visiting the Mexican Riviera.  I fully expect that by this time tomorrow all cruise lines sailing the area will make their intentions public, but in the mean time here is the information Carnival and Royal Caribbean rolled out today.

Carnival Cruise Lines: All Mexican ports of call have been canceled for all cruises departing through May 4th.  Carnival will be substituting alternate ports where possible.  Those guests not wanting to sail an alternate itinerary will be able to reschedule for a later date.  Full details on what is in store will be available tomorrow evening.

Royal Caribbean/ Celebrity: All stops in Mexico have been temporarily suspended. This announcement will impact the following ships.

  • Enchantment of the Seas
  • Freedom of the Seas
  • Liberty of the Seas
  • Mariner of the Seas – will be sailing a completely revamped itinerary
  • Radiance of the Seas
  • Serenade of the Seas
  • Celebrity Infinity

Assuming I’m not at work or otherwise indisposed I will be posting information as it comes out.

Cruise Line Cancellations to Mexican Ports of Call

Yesterday evening the Center for Disease Control and Prevention decided to issue a travel warning advising people to forego any nonessential travel to Mexico.  The U.S. Department of State also issued a similar alert due to the Swine flu outbreak.  Today the cruise lines have started to address the issue.  Holland America, Princess and Carnival cruise lines have all confirmed that they will be changing their itinerary to avoid Mexican ports of call.

Today two of Princess Cruises ships the Sapphire and Coral Princess skipped scheduled stops along the Mexican Riviera, and were replaced by San Diego and Catalina.  Passengers aboard Holland America’s Ryndam were scheduled to be in Mazatlan today but instead skipped that port of call.  Also, Holland American announced that five of their ships will be changing their itineraries to avoid Mexico.  The Ryndam, Statendam, Westerdam, Veendam and Zuiderdam will all be sailing a yet to be released itinerary.

Meanwhile three Carnival ships were supposed to dock in Mexican ports today.  The Carnival Holiday and Inspiration were supposed to spend the day in Cozumel, while the Carnival Elation was set to dock in Ensenada.  None of those ships made their stops today.  It has also been announced that the Carnival Paradise will be skipping Ensenada tomorrow.

Stay tuned for more information to see what the revised itineraries will look like, and to see what the other cruise lines will be doing to keep their beloved customers healthy and happy.
